Life on the road

I've been on the road for five days now. I'm currently in La Pine, Oregon, a truck stop town on a lonely stretch of US-97. This is my last route on my job, which I will be quitting this month. It's strange to think that I may never pass this way again, that I might not cruise through the blooming apple orchards in central Washington, or peer over precipitous cliffs on the southern Oregon and northen California coasts on 101, that I might not summit Wauconda, Siskiyou, Stevens, Alpowa, or Satus passes in the bitter cold and snow, or stare down on Lewiston, Idaho from 1000 feet above it in the hills, or take the Port Townsend ferry across the Puget sound with the moon peeking over the horizon. I have seen so much beauty! I've borne witness to the changing of the seasons all over the Pacific NW, breathtaking sunsets, chilling winter storms, torrential rain, mudslides, and so many rainbows. Sufficed to say, I will be glad to be finished with this work. It is exhausting, and with a sweet girl to miss while I'm gone, heartbreaking. I've spent 60 hours in my car this week, driven over 1600 miles, with a couple hundered more to go. Since I bought the CRX in Nov last year, I have put 51,000 miles on it. It's been fun.

Reminds me of the Johnny Cash song that starts off, "I've been to......(and he lists a long string of towns in rapid-fire succesion.") It seems you've inherited your mother's gift for pretty prose. You write very well.

Thanks Dad! Here's the the lyric.

"I've been everywhere, man
Crossed the deserts bare, man
I've breatherd the mountain air, man
Of travel I've had my share, man
I've been everywhere"
