We had a hellacious windstorm last night, with winds on the coast and Mt Hood rumored to be at 100mph. I was working, and was on the way back from Roseburg, Oregon on I-5 during the dicier bits of it. Luckily the winds were only 30-45mph gusting to 60 in the valley so the going wasn't too bad on the highway. Off in the distance though, I was seeing huge flashes of blue light, like lightning or strange explosions. I witnessed something I have never seen before and probably will not see again for a long time last night. It took me a while to figure out what was happening, but as the storm progressed, trees fell and took out power in many cities. What I saw over the skies of Lebanon, Albany, and Salem were exploding transformers! I saw at least twelve or thirteen flashes that lit up the sky like it was day, some coming in quick succession. It was an eerie and beautiful experience, but I have to feel for the people up the street from those mofos when they blew!
